How to Turn a Placemat into a Pillow!
Yes, you heard me correctly, a placemat into a pillow.
See, I have a love/hate relationship with throw pillows. I love them, but I hate spending money on them. I love making my own pillow covers and being able to swap them out whenever I feel like it. A couple years ago, I found a really cute Christmas placemat at Target I thought would make a great pillow, so I purchased it, and the placemat pillow was born!
I love to browse the seasonal placemats, but these babies caught my eye from the clearance section at Target. They were a whopping $2.48 a piece!
Lately, I have been leaning towards the more modern look and anything black and white so these drew me in immediately. It is important that you get placemats with 2 pieces of fabric sewn together.
For these placemats, I used a seam ripper to tear the two pieces of fabric apart. You can find a seam ripper for fairly inexpensive at your local craft store or get one here on Amazon. You do not need to rip it too much, just a few inches, enough to get some stuffing in the hole.
This is the stuffing I use for my pillows. It is up to you how fluffy you like your pillows, but this bag could stuff both pillowcases. Simply stuff your pillowcase to your liking then use a ladder stitch, or invisible stitch, to close up your hole!
You can find lots of tutorials on Pinterest if you are not sure how to do one.
Or if you own a sewing machine, you could sew it up that way. The sewing machine I own is this one. I received it as a gift a few years ago for Christmas and I love it! It is perfect for a beginner to learn on and has been amazing!
